Fruit Share Info

Fruit shares start in June as soon as strawberries are ready and go for 21 weeks. Because the weather decides when the berries are ready, we will e-mail you approximately one week in advance of your first fruit share pickup date. Fruit shares get limited u-pick on our organic strawberries. Each week of strawberry season you may choose either a limited amount of already picked strawberries or a larger amount of limited PYO strawberries.

In addition to our organic strawberries, fruit share members also receive our own organic red and black raspberries, as well as blueberries. We supplement fruit shares with organic grapes from Paul Christ's family farm in Fredonia, as well as low-spray sweet cherries, peaches, apricots, plums, nectarines, pears, and apples from Dan Tower's farm in Youngstown. The tree fruits are not organic, but they are fresh and local, and sprayed less than typical tree fruit. Click here to see a list of fruit received weekly in a previous year's share.

Dan and Iris Towers have been eliminating chemical sprays as much as possible, and instead are using organic sulphur, oils, and pheromone traps to combat disease and insects. They are still not organic, but are spraying far less and their fruit is delicious. We have been attending organic orchard seminars and researching all we can, and are planning on starting a small organic experimental orchard soon.

Blueberries will be offered already picked in limited amounts. If you have a fruit share, you may also pick your own at a discounted price per pound at our organic blueberry farm on Folsomdale Rd. in Cowlesville, or in our new young bushes across the road from our farm. Raspberries will be in limited quantities for pick your own or already picked.

If you have a fruit share and want canning quantities of peaches or other fruit, you may purchase them at a discount. Included in your weekly share will be quarts and pints of all of the seasonally available fruit and berries, plus the u-pick berries mentioned.

In order to be as environmentally responsible as possible, we request that fruit share owners bring their own boxes or bags to transport their fruit. It bothers us to use so many plastic bags, for environmental reasons as well as the fact that they can harm the quality of the fruit. Berries will still come in appropriately sized reusable containers. We want your delicious fruit to get home safely!
