Farm News- April 25, 2026

Hello and happy spring! Now that the weather is warming up, we’ll start sharing a weekly newsletter, so you can look for us in your inbox weekly moving forward.

We also try (key word is “try” because sometimes farming gets the best of us and social media falls to the wayside!) to post updates on our farm’s instagram page too.

At this point in April, the greenhouses are loaded with transplants for our fields and also getting ready for the seedling sale!

The first days of our seedling sale will be May 8th (9-5) and 9th (9-3), and we anticipate having more seedlings and plants to sell following those days, depending on demand.

For the best selection, come on May 8th or 9th!

If you have a CSA card, you may use it to purchase seedlings and plants, but the seedling sale is open to everyone, so come one and come all!

We will have organic vegetable, flower, and herb seedlings. We will also have strawberry, blueberry, pomegranate, kiwi, elderberry, fig, persimmon, gooseberry, currant, and mulberry trees/ bushes/plants/and vines for sale.

The big question we get asked this time of year is “when is asparagus ready” and the answer is- hopefully within a couple weeks! If it’s cold and rainy, it’ll be delayed, but if it’s warm and sunny we’ll see it sooner. We will send a newsletter sharing when it’s ready, and post on our instagram about it too.

    * We have been frost seeding clover and are almost finished; 480 acres are done so far.  We broadcast the clover seed over the ground when we are still getting a lot of freezing and thawing.  The little seeds get absorbed into the ground due to the freezing/thawing action and become planted.  The organic clover (pictures below) that grows from this seeding becomes a cover crop to improve the soil and it is the main food our beef and dairy cows eat. It’s a win-win for a farm!

* We cut the clover at its peak of perfection, when its red blossoms are just starting to open.  Then, we round bale it while it is still lush and green and wrap it airtight so it lacto-ferments just like sauerkraut.  It is great for the cows and they love it.  It’s loaded with protein and many nutrients.

    * We have also been spreading compost on the soil (making food for the coming crops), getting equipment ready, and planting a few hundred acres of oats.  The earlier the oats get in, the better they yield.  

 * Chicks arrive today, so we will have Naomi and Hannah’s organically raised chicken available this summer as usual.
    * The asparagus should start in a couple weeks or so, weather depending. We are also planting another 1 1/2 acres of it this year.
