Thorpe’s Farm Newsletter June 26, 2026

* Strawberries are continuing this week but slowing down, and getting smaller and fewer. We’ll be open for u-pick Saturday June 27 from 9-2:30 (closed Sunday) and will post hours on our website Sunday evening for early next week.
This will likely be our last weekend for u-pick, and we’ll probably be open another couple days next week depending on how the fields look. Stay tuned!

* The great news is I have eaten the first ripe blueberry and raspberries in the last several days and they’re delicious!
They will be coming soon on the stand (maybe just a few days) and PYO will start soon after that. Stay tuned! We’ll post on our website when u-pick is open for both blueberries and raspberries.

  * We just planted our 7th planting of sweet corn and our 1st planting of string beans yesterday before the rain.
    * Potatoes are all cultivated and looking great. You can see their size in the photo below.. we’ll have new potatoes soon!
    * Shelling and snow peas should be coming soon for PYO.

* You may be wondering why beef prices are higher these days. Beef cattle numbers in the US are at the lowest they’ve been in 75 years.
Beef calves are by far the most expensive they’ve ever been. We buy weaned calves from a local farm close by here, then feed them our own organic clover baleage (which is lush clover cut, round baled, and airtight wrapped, then fermented like sauerkraut) as well as our own organic freshly ground grains raised and ground right here by us. The cattle love it and thrive on it, and they get all they desire to eat of all of our organic bounty.
*We have individual cuts in the stand/store freezer, and you can still order sides and quarters by calling our office at 716-655-4486.

Strawberries (u-pick, but the season is winding down)
* We will also have (certified organic from our friends at Root Down Farm in Clarence): broccoli, purple broccolini, and zucchini/summer squash. Their broccoli and summer squash got ready slightly before ours and they had a surplus!
