Eventually, we learned of the negative impacts things like herbicides and pesticides could have on soil health, not to mention our own health, as we were constantly exposed to chemicals when farming. We made the leap from conventional to organic in the 90’s, and became certified organic through NOFA-NY in 1999. Our farming methods rely on age old practices such as cover crops, crop rotation, organic animal manure from our cows for fertilizer, and lots of weeding by hand. Six kids, 13 grandkids, and 42 years later, and the family farm continues, thanks to Mike and Gayle’s vision, and the work of many good friends through the years. We grow a wide variety of certified organic fruits and vegetables at our farm in western NY, available at our farm store and through our CSA.
